Joe Cohen, the young CEO of a California based company called SelfHacked, is looking for a suitable girlfriend, and he is offering $10,000 to whoever points him in the right direction. He is also offering $2,000 to anyone who can introduce him to someone else who can connect him with a woman.
30-year-old Cohen has created a very complex dating advert on his blog, in which he explains why he opted for this unusual way of finding a romantic partner, what he looks for in a woman, as well as details about himself. He also mentions that he will only pay out the reward if he successfully dates the woman for at least four months. That is apparently the amount of time it takes Cohen to get to know someone, and will also protect him against women just looking to earn some money.
Cohen has a long, but not an unreasonable list of traits he is looking for in a woman, such as being “low on neuroticism” and “high on conscientiousness”. She must be intelligent, open-minded, and preferably Jewish. If she doesn’t already live in Southern California, where Cohen is based, then she has to be willing to relocate there, or somewhere else with equally pleasant weather. The young entrepreneur is willing to pay her airfare and set her up in an Airbnb while they get to know each other.
His ideal woman should be childless, under 5’9, and aged between 20 and 30. The advert also mentions that a self-aware, funny, and not materialistic woman would be ideal.
As for Cohen, he describes himself as,”intelligent, kind, easy-going, even-keeled, authentic, positive, and honest. I tend to always push the bounds of or poke at social conventions, mainly for the entertainment value it brings me.” His hobbies include hiking, tennis, traveling and meeting interesting people, his ancestry is 99.8% European, and he is a very direct guy who likes to live his life “as if the concept of embarrassment didn’t exist”.
Cohen has had difficulty meeting women in real life as he is new to Southern California and lacks a solid social network. “If you ask around, most women meet guys through social circles, school, or work. The problem is, as I mentioned, my social circles in southern California are limited, I’m not in school, and it’s not a good practice to date your employees,” he writes.
Cohen has tried dating apps and websites with no success. He says that he has approached women in bars and venues, but that hasn’t lead to a serious relationship.
“I got a whole new wardrobe, started working out, bought a new Benz, bought furniture and gadgets to make my room look cool, became more extroverted, got lasik, and more. I ended up attracting the wrong types of women that I wasn’t interested in anyway,” he claims.
Cohen eventually felt like he had exhausted all options, but then the idea to crowdsource romance struck him. He realized that the traffic on his website might translate to a broad reach for an advertisement, and a monetary reward would multiply that reach exponentially. Of the money, Cohen says, “Compared to the value of a long-term companion, $10,000 is relatively little. In terms of ROI, it’ll probably be the best investment of my life.”
So far, his unusual ad for love has been viewed 3000 times, and Cohen has received over 400 messages. If you know someone perfect for him, or even someone who knows someone, don’t be afraid to reach out to him. After all, the only thing better than making someone happy is making some money in the process.
